Gifts and Registry

Your presence at our celebration is already more than enough of a gift!  However, if you would like to give something in addition, please read on.

As many of you know, Diana and I still have a lot of long-distance moving to do in our immediate future.  Therefore, in anticipation of our need for mobility we have decided to forgo a traditional wedding registry and suggest any of the following options instead:

Charitable Donations
Diana and I are truly fortunate in many ways and we would love to share with those less fortunate.  It would mean a lot to us if you contributed to your favorite charity in honor of our celebration, or to some of our favorite organizations:
  • Kiva.org - A non-profit organization working to create opportunity and alleviate poverty throughout the world by connecting people with lenders through micro-finance institutions.
  • The American Red Cross - Providing emergency response and disaster relief.
  • Habitat for Humanity - Building homes to provide safe and affordable housing.
  • World Vision - Fighting poverty and transforming communities through child sponsorship.
  • Tzu Chi - A Taiwanese organization dedicated to advancing its missions of charity, medicine, education, environmental protection, and international disaster response and relief.
Red Envelopes
A red envelope containing money is the traditional Chinese gift for weddings to help the couple as they embark on their new life together.  The amount of money inside is usually an even number (but without any digits being a "4") for good luck.  Using an actual red envelop is optional as greeting cards or other envelopes work wonderfully as well.  However, if red envelopes strike your fancy, you can usually find them at your nearest Chinese grocery store (e.g. Ranch 99).  They can be well-hidden so it is quickest to ask the store clerk to help you find them.  They come in different varieties for different occasions so you'll want to ask for the wedding ones.

Honeymoon Fund
Contribute to our first joint expense!  We will be taking our honeymoon sometime in 2012 so if you would like to contribute to our trip, simply earmark your cash contribution for our honeymoon and we will see that it is put to good use on our trip!
